Back to School Routine, Munch did Not Cope Well.

This morning started off well enough, Munch got up in a good mood, he tried to say that he was feeling sick, but mummy knew better, especially as he ate all his breakfast.  Munch was happily writing at the table and got ready for school no problem at all.

After school was a different matter though, whether it was the fact that we have had a very odd few weeks and then going back into the routine of school I don’t know but when we got in we started his reading, he was very unco-operative, he was missing words,  reading in gibberish, pretending not to know words that I know he know’s very well. So I just shut his book and said that if that was the mood he was in there was no point in carrying on and I would just write in his book just that, start of the pleading, ‘no mummy, I will read’, so second chance given, no change, so I stopped. Munch now started pushing and getting aggressive so it was – Step, he was pushing and trying to bite me so I just took him to the step and tried to put me and the dog into the living room out off his way, he dived into he living room and when I told him to go back to the step, he said no, I just manoeuvred him to the step and said his 7 minutes would start when he was on the step. I had to stand with my back to the door, he eventually got the message and went and sat on the step and did his time.

After his time up, he did wanted to read and did finnish his reading, if not as well as I know he can, as well as could be expected given his mood. I do write how he has read in the book though, and did say to start he had been uncooperative.

His mood continued he was being very contrary, wanting, then not wanting, jus being very whinny and trying to control situations all evening, I had ordered new ice boots for him as his one I had bought were to big and wanted him to try them on, he put on a big show of not being able to get them on, whilst making no effort, I was not being drawn in, so just said to leave it for now, and as we were putting them down, he accused me of strangling him, in a very aggressive tone, so he know’s this is wrong and was sent to the step, he immediately tried to change not what he had said but how he had ment it, but blaming people for things means the step, so step it was.

After his second sit on the step Munch seemed to have calmed a little, he tried on his ice boots, and then went to watch TV, which he did quietly until dinner. A dinner we had an incident where he knocked some of his food on to the table, you would have thought he had lost the lot by the way he carried on, he wailed, he wasn’t eating anymore, stropped away from the table, a complete over reaction, I just talked very calmly and we put the food back onto his plate, took off his cloths as they had gravy on and we managed to finish dinner in a civilized way!!

Munch went back to watching TV whilst I got his karate gear ready, I spoke to him whilst he was watching Tv, and again he shouted aggressively that he was watching TV, so he got sent to the step again as he is not allowed to talk to people like that, and just writing this down has made me remember, that the one thing our play therapist had us doing when things were bad and it worked quickly was  – your being rude with your voice – that’s not allowed – STEP, and your being something with your body – that’s not allowed – STEP. Can’t remember the wording we used so will have to get out my note-book and look it up and go back to it as it worked a treat before, and we have found that it is better to get on top of this behaviour then let it take hold and get out of hand which it can quite quickly.

After that karate went well, home and his usual TV before bed, story and he asked for snuggle time and cream time tonight, so 5 minutes before lights out we did snuggle time which consisted of doing This Little Piggy, and Round and Round the Garden so a bit of regression needed tonight, then a lovely massage with his special cream, so nice and tactile.

One thing that I have not mentioned for a while is that we still have the constant calling down each night for a good 1-2 hours, tonight it was only for 1/2 hour, so maybe the nice relaxing massage helped just before light out, so will try this again.

2nd Week of Easter Holiday’s and Easter Weekend

The Easter Holiday’s seem to have gone by in a blur, during the 2nd week Munch was bouncing a little and we did have to keep thing’s in check a bit he was very hyper and we had a few nose bleeds which are alway’s a sign that he is out of his comfort zone.

Thing’s were still very much all over the place in the aftermath of nanny passing away, routines where still out of the window, so considering all that we did get away lightly really compared to other time’s and hopefully now we are back at school thing’s will get back onto an even keel. We do have a couple of odd week’s coming up though with Royal Wedding’s, bank holiday’s and the school being closed for election day!!!

We had a lovely if not busy Easter Weekend, on Friday we visited Kids Space, it was good as it was fairly quiet as people were enjoying the sun. On the Saturday we took a picnic to Coram Field’s in London which is a lovely area, people can only go in if they have children with them, no adults only, they have a paddling pool, animal’s, play area’s, sand pit’s, we set up camp, and Munch was able to go off and play, they have someone on the entrance so children cannot go out. We only saw Munch every now and again when he came by for food or just to say hello.

On Easter Sunday we went to visit relative’s down on the South Coast, Munch loved having the day with his big cousin and as soon as we got there reverted to talking with a babyish voice, we had a great BBQ, then we all went to an adventure play ground, Munch tried to be very controlling when there, and sulked a fair bit when not getting his own way, he was being very contrary, saying he wanted to do something and then not wanting to when someone went to help him, then when they went off to do something else wanting to do it again, but nobody was giving into him so he had to give up in the end. From there we went to the beach, Munch and his cousin were so brave and went in the sea!!!! He was very put out because the beach was pebbles and he wanted to know where the sand was.

We went back to their house and before we knew it was 9pm, se we left as we had a 2 hour drive home, Munch actually slept in the car on the way home.

On Easter Monday when  Munch came into us he said that he had been sick during the night, when I went into his room his bed was covered in vomit, I asked him why he had not called for us and he said he knew he was being sick but he was sleeping!! Poor child had slept in a bed covered in vomit. He did not want any breakfast which is very unusual for him, he went off to Smyths to spend his Easter Money with daddy. When they came back we had arranged to meet the Ozzy relatives for the afternoon so that they could see Munch again before they go home later on this week, we picked them up and went to a local bar and Restaurant that has a play area and bouncy castle for kids, we ordered lunch and Munch had his usual, Spag Bol, he only ate the bolognaise sauce, and when we got home he just lay on the sofa until bed time and even asked to got to bed!!!

Yesterday was 1st day back at school after the Easter Holiday’s, Munch got up only ate half his breakfast and was sick again, so I phoned school to say he wouldn’t be in, he spent most of the morning in bed, he ate a little at lunch time, but again just lay on the sofa, about tea time he suddenly got up went to the fridge and got him self a bit of Easter Egg, and from there on in he was back to his normal self.

So in all besides our very sad news about MIL passing away, Easter although hectic has been good, we could have had much worse and are very proud of how our little boy has handled thing’s, me and hubby often look back to how thing’s were this time last year and cannot believe the progress that Munch has made, we in ourselves have chilled and have learnt so much over the last 15 months.

The one thing we are very sure about is that we love our little Munch with all our hearts and cannot imagine life with out him, and cannot wait to get our court dates.

A Strange Time!!

Where does the time go I cannot believe it has been 10 days since I last posted.

We have had a week of the Easter School holiday’s as well. It’s been a strange time as we had MIL funeral during the week. Munch on the whole has coped very well, we have had some regression and he has needed reassurance along the way but has coped well. We did not take him to the funeral but did take him to the church the night before when the church received the body, he was a bit worried about nanny snoring in her box and asked did she have  a pillow in their with her!!!

We have not done much over the week, we went ice skating one day and as usual was there from start to finish, on the day of the funeral Munch went to an activity day and apart from that we have muddled through, routine has gone out of the window with late night’s and all of us having a bit of a lay in, in the morning’s, I am sure we will pay for it at a later date.

We have had to use the step a few times and today whilst out shopping we had to leave before any shopping got done.

I enquired about our referral to CAHM’s this week and I know our case has been discussed and we will be contacted within 8 – 12 weeks, 4 of which have already passed.

What has been noticeable whilst other people have been around is that you see thing’s more through others eye’s, I have noticed how everything is done as my dad kept saying a 140 miles an hours, he does not stop and is constantly on the go, when we go ice skating he will practical skate solidly for 5 1/2 hours and then come home and play football with his dad for 2 hours!!!

The one thing though is he is into his movies and will sit quietly to watch one, as he is doing now.

Hopefully thing’s will get back to normal here now and I will try to update more often.

It’s Been a While.

Well it’s been a while since I last posted so sign that everything is going well.

In that time we have had our last Play Therapy session, we had a visit from Munch’s SW without any major incident afterwards.

We have had day’s out at Chessington and Legoland all enjoyed a great deal, we have Merlin passes and we have been able to get an extra pass as we receive DLA now for Munch so that is good.

On Saturday Munch had his 1st Karate grading and gained his red belt with a 1s class pass and also won a trophy for best in the white-red belt category, he was so pleased with himself, before hand we had the usual with him not waning to go, to much of the unknown again.

We have had Grampy staying for a week as it was his 70th Birthday on Monday, on Saturday night we took Grampy to the dog racing, we had a house full staying all weekend as, my brother, SIL and niece also came to celebrate with us all, Munch did very well and won the most money of all of us, at time it was all a bit much for him and we had a few little incident where he needed reigning in but mostly he was very good.

Mother’s Day would have been perfect as Munch was very excited, he had made me a card at school and I have to share his fantastic poem that he wrote in it

Your hair is curly like a pig’s tail, your lips are like pink diamond.

What a way with words he has, I had chocolates and another card too. The sad thing was though that my MIL had passed away in the early hours of the morning, we did tell Munch, how much he understands though is another thing, he did ask who is going to live in Nanny’s house now.

We have a date for Munch’s SW’s final visit and our SW is going to come on the same day as well before Munch get’s home from school so we can make sure that everything is in place before we get our AO. We still have no date yet, we are hoping it will be soon though.

We have decided to stay put and not move, we weighed up the pro’s and con’s and what was most important to us, and we decided that we do want to start the process as soon as possible for no.2 after our AO has been granted, we are hoping for about June and have decided that although our SW (our old one who left) said we can start ASAP we have decided to have 6 month’s SW free and start again after next Christmas.

Finally today Munch got Star of the day at school so a nice thing to finish off on.
