Summer holidays and Update

I can’t believe I have not added to this blog since Easter a sure sign that things have been ticking along nicely.

Munch has been in a good place, we still have the usual attachment issues but we seem to be dealing with them better so things don’t get so irate.

We had an appointment with the psychiatrist at CAMHS at the beginning of July, after speaking with both me and Munch she said that Munch has got definite ADHD traits as well as Attachment
difficulties, she gave us a list of medications to research and a couple of questions to ask our GP re Munch’s health and the BF health!!! We have just received our follow up appointment for mid November.

We had a brilliant summer holiday, me and Munch spent a lot of time away from home, we had a week at Butlin’s with Granny and big cousin, he loves it there so a good time was had by all. We then had a week at home before going on one of Charlie’s Future Adoption Camps, as usual this was fab, great to meet up with old and new friends and to feel normal as nobody bats an eyelid at any of the children’s behaviours.

From there we went to Grampy’s for a couple of nights on our way to another camping holiday, Munch was still much the same with Grampy as usual but you could see that he was trying hard to modify how he behaves towards him.

Then we camped for a week, just me and him, we had a lovely week. We went out during the day then in the night back at the camp site munch would be away playing with the other children every now and again he would come back to the tent just to check I was there and off he would go again, later on he would come back to the tent just get himself into bed read or play a game on the phone and before I knew it he would be off to sleep, most mornings I would be up before him which never happens at home, it was just a lovely care free week.

Whilst there we did visit Munch’s FC’s, the night before he became very insecure, needed lots of reassurance, then became extremely babyish in his behaviour. All the way there I had to talk to him through his teddy, this is the 3rd time we have met up with his FC’s, but the other times had always been on neutral territory, this was the 1st time we actually won’t to their house. Once there though Munch was fine and w had a lovely day with them.

The weekend before school started we all went camping, the 1st day Munch struggled, I think this was because daddy was there, it was the run up to school etc. After that though the weekend want by with out incident, we all had a great time, even the dog.

We only had one day left before school when we got back, we had the usual nose bleeds that day and night, but as it was only for a day and night we felt that was great improvement as they normally start a good few days before.

We have v good return to school, Munch was pleased, with the teacher he has, she is very strict but he seems to thrive on tis, you could visible see him relaxing when he was talking about her and 2 weeks in we have had no being called to one side.

So overall we had a great 6 weeks holiday with some fabulous memories made for us all.

On our 2nd adoption front things are at a bit of a stand still at the moment, we finally finished our HS, we were due to go to panel in July, which then got put back to August. Then Munch’s placing LA arranged some Therapy for him at the request of our local CAMHS, SW from Munch’s LA spoke to our assessing SW who though that we needed to see what the outcome of us meeting with the therapist was before we went before AP.

We have now seen the therapist who does not see any need to se Munch, has given us the go ahead for no.2, and ha said that we can use the other 2 sessions to talk about strategies to help Munch when a new child is placed.

So know we are just waiting for our PAR to be updated with his information and a new panel date.

1st HS & Munch Settling at School

Well we had our 1st Home Study visit last Friday in our quest for no.2. The original plan was 2 have 2 whole day HS to update and add to our old PAR, I had forgotten though how our SW was always at least 1/2 to an hour late, and true to form it was an hour. I had also forgotten how once hubby starts talking he goes off on a tangent and cam waffle for England!!!! That coupled with the the fact that Munch finishes school at 3pm meant that we only had 2 3/4 hours mostly filled with hubby waffling!!

Anyway we have made a start and with Christmas coming up our next HS is going to be beginning of January once Munch is back at school, I now have a copy of the new PAR so can be working on a lot of it by then, so in reality is going to be at least another 2 visits.

Munch is very excited about us having started, but is not happy about the little sister bit as he would like a brother. The one thing is it has given us the opportunity to talk more about how he became our son and the process we go through, funny thing is though as often as we explain to him it takes a long time, I think he still expected to come home from school last Friday and find a little sister hee waiting for him as he knew the SW was coming.

Munch seems more settled now at school, so far this half terms we have not been called aside once by the teacher, a few times she has spoken to me to praise how he is doing and this seems to be having a positive affect on him.

With the lead up to Christmas though now it is a tricky time for Munch as this would have been the time they were preparing him 2 years ago for his move to us. We have had a few nosebleeds, a sure sign with Munch that he is stressed, but as yet not had any of the headaches and tummy aches he had last year and not wanting to go to school. Lets hope that he doesn’t get any.

3/12 – No School Again

After sitting up till silly o’clock this morning, Munch came in at 7.30 to ask if he had school today, he was very apologetic, but said he just wanted to know if there was school today, fair enough, and he went back to his room happily once I had told him I did not know yet, alarm went off at 7.45, got up did breakfast and phoned the number we had been given as we had no texts yet from the school, yes school was open, then as soon as I put the phone down got a text saying school was closed, much to Munch’s delight.

We had a peaceful morning as Munch wanted to watch Spy Kids 3 that he had recorded on Sky, then by the time that had finished, daddy was up and they sat and built with the Lego, so still peaceful. Daddy was going to work and me and Munch were going Christmas shopping, but Munch really wanted Daddy to come, so we are lucky that daddy can change his work to suit himself and us, so daddy took today off and off we all went, Munch was a little hyper whilst out, he had £6.61 of his own money to spend and that was all that he went on about, so in the end we ended up just letting munch spend his money, as I had began to feel not well at all, this is the second time in about 6 weeks, both times it has come on very quickly, and so we made our way home.

Daddy had to go to nanny’s to take her some supplies, Munch didn’t want to go, but he has been well-behaved and has played on the computer quietly and is now watch TV, so I can lay down, he is patiently waiting for daddy to come home and hoping that he will play the Junior Monopoly with him, as on nights when he has no school the next day he gets to stay up an hour longer he will be able to stay up till 9pm tonight, as we have just changed his bedtime to 8pm.

Daddy came home and they both played Junior Monopoly until 8.30, then Munch came and watched TV for 1/2 before bed.

School Closed

We had a text from the school just after 7am to say that they would be closed today, I was still in bed so when the alarm went off at 7.45 I just turned it off and turned over. Munch then came in at 8.30 to ask when we were getting up, how lovely a 3/4 hour lay in. Munch jumped in with us for about 15 minutes before we got up.

Daddy and Munch had bacon sandwiches for breakfast, we then asked Munch to go and play for a while upstairs on his own as this is something he never does and needs lots of encouragement to do, he came down several times during that time to ask if it was time to come down, and he just put the Sky on in our room, I think that I shall be encouraging playing on his own time from now on, but our room will be out-of-bounds.

I had decided to go to a near by shopping centre to do some Christmas shopping, get myself some Wellington’s, and have some lunch. I was getting ready to do so when Munch decided to jump on daddy whilst daddy was holding a hot cup of tea, he was immediately sent to the step for this, Munch did his usual saying, that he hadn’t done anything, daddy really has not got the hang of this step consequence and got up and started arguing back with Munch, instead of the ignoring him bit, Munch is now thriving on this and poked his tongue out at daddy promoting daddy to say, that’s it you’re not going out now, which incensed me because I was not something that Munch wanted to do in particular, it was something that I needed to do, but once said there is no going back.

So daddy has gone to work I am indoors with a little boy who was bouncing of the walls, 2 more step sessions and we are now sitting quietly watching The 12 Dog’s of Christmas on Christmas 24, peace.

Once the film had finished we went to Asda’s to get a few bits and pieces, we had a bite to eat  whilst there then grabbed our bits and came home, I was hoping that they might have some Wellington’s and a sledge, but they didn’t.

Back at home we had a drink before putting back on all our warm cloths and going in the garden for half an hours fun in the snow. Munch was really enjoying himself, he did not stop laughing all the time we were out there, when we were to cold and wet for anymore, we came in and I made some lovely hot chocolate, afterwards I prepare dinner, Munch went and played with his Lego until it was done.

Munch in the back garden

We had salmon steaks, with new potatoes, veg and Hollandaise Sauce. Munch had salmon when he fist came and ate the lot, one taste today and he was spitting it out, I mention this because, I spoke to a play therapist at our  Agency a few months after Munch came about the fact that when he 1st came he ate absolutely anything we gave him, he was very possessive of food and due to early life experiences, we had to be for our lives watching what he was storing in his room, he wanted to keep sausages under his pillow, and one of the very 1st things he said to us, was that he was never going to be hungry again, anyway after a few months he started to say that he didn’t like somethings, he PT I was talking to said that it was because when he 1st came to us he would have been so shut down that he would not have been able to taste anything, and as he was starting to settle, he was beginning to get his senses back, interesting stuff.

After dinner Munch wanted to play junior Monopoly again, we did this until it was time to get ready for bed, Munch had asked to have a shower in the morning rather than a bath tonight, which I agreed to. He watched his TV for an hour. Had supper, story, snuggle time and his arms massaged with his special cream, unfortunately he was unable to listen when I asked him to not touch the cream, so we stopped at just arms tonight, hug and kiss and now I am about to have a well-earned coffee before tackling some ironing.
